"Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might."
Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Jesus adds that we should love our neighbor as ourselves. Deuteronomy reminds us of a truth we already know -- that we live in cities that we did not build; that we drink water from wells that we did not dig; that we eat from vineyards that we did not tend. (Deut 6:10-11)

“A Blessed Responsibility” - Mim Hundley

“Second Presbyterian has truly been a second family for my daughters and me. What does a family do? They cry with you in sad times, hold your hand in anxious times and rejoice with you in happy times. Families share the joy of watching darling children grow into independent and bright adults. A family is there for comfort and support through our loved ones’ final days. Having this church family has enriched our lives beyond measure. From Nancy Boop’s cheerful welcome our first time through the door in 1985, to hugs every Christmas Eve service, we have always had a home in Second Church.

“The love and importance of a Presbyterian church home was modeled for me by my mother and grandmother. Idlewild in Memphis and First Presbyterian in Houston nurtured our generations and were the sites of Vacation Bible Schools, Easter services, weddings, baptisms, funerals, and so much more. And like Second Pres, they provided the opportunity not only to learn about God’s love but to share that love with others through fellowship and outreach. It is a joy to me that these churches continue to thrive. And so it is that I have a blessed responsibility to leave my Presbyterian church home a gift for the future—a gift for the families who walk through our doors, that they can know the love of our members and thrill of Holy love, and for the community that is touched by our outreach.”
