As I learn each day more and more about the people who were charter members of this congregation and then continued the work to help University United Methodist Church grow to the mighty presence we have in the Lake Charles area today, I continue to be filled with gratitude. There is a quote adapted by Ruth Chalmers that says, "Those who make a planned gift are like people who plant shade trees under which they will never sit." These men and women stepped out in faith to give of their prayers, presence, financial gifts, service, and their witness to help us become who we are today. I have been more mindful lately, too, that it is time to begin discerning again a new wave of preparation for the future, and assessing how we each might play our part.

There are many opportunities you have to remember University United Methodist Church's witness in your life. This could be through a planned gift in your will, through a charitable gift annuity, or other means. Even if you might be saying to yourself, "I'm not in a financial position to even consider a gift at this time," please don't shy away from this unique chance to learn about possibilities. You might be surprised how easy it truly can be, and how some planned giving allows for you to financially benefit in life even as you plan for raising up a new generation of spiritual leaders in the years to come. We hope you will seriously consider looking through this portal, and bringing others in our membership (especially those that need assistance to come) along with you to discern what God may be calling you to do to bring glory to God through a planned gift offered generously from the heart of your family.
